Cathy Lea Scott Art - Welcome to My Online Art Space

"River Crossing" Waxed Gouache on 12"X16" paper - framed.
A group of riders and horses were crossing a glacier fed river in Iceland. The image speaks to me of the natural movements between that of the horses and the river in the rugged Icelandic landscape.

"Movement in Time" is a 8"X8" waxed gouache on paper - framed. This piece depicts a group of people moving in front of a window and exterior clock face. I took a photo of this composition when visiting the Museum D'Orsay in Paris in 2014 and was struck by the play of light and shadow as people walked past the framed time piece not seeing themselves as a work of art in real time.
is painting and drawing anywhere/anytime, especially en plein air when accompanied by a like-minded group of artists in a new and exciting environment.
Art is my passion! As a lifelong learner, I have taken many art classes and workshops over the years. I have also been very fortunate to travel to other parts of the world and study with internationally known artists, which have greatly influenced my plein air painting style. I am so thankful to see this amazing life through an artist's eyes.
While working and raising a family, I struggled to find the time and energy to grow my art practice, but I am very excited to embrace the gift of time, now that retirement is here!
I am a member of the Allied Arts Council in Spruce Grove, Alberta, and I have recently taken on the role of President. I am thrilled to work with our wonderfully creative artist community, as we continue to facilitate cultural events and organize art exhibitions and educational opportunities in our area.
In 2006, I graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension with a Fine Arts Certificate. During my time there, I had several successful art exhibitions, showcasing my oil, pastel and acrylic paintings, collages, and intaglio prints.
I am looking forward to finding new venues and ways to grow and share my art work.

"Barco Mimosa" 18" X 36" Acrylic on Canvas framed. These famed fishing boats are stationed on the beautiful beach in the Nazare', Portugal area.
My husband and I loved our time exploring the ancient fishing village, walking the expansive waterfront and up onto the Sitio' headland for the incredible full circle views of the coastal area.

My beautiful sister posing with "Barco Mimosa" in the Allied Arts Council Gallery after she so generously purchased it for her family.
Thanks to Chris for being so supportive and generous!!!!

4 ea 8"x"8" acrylic paintings on 2.5" wide canvases of my daughter-in-law and granddaughter walking among projected images of Van Gogh's paintings at the Imagine Van-Gogh: The Immersive Exhibition held in July 2021 in Edmonton, AB. We had a wonderful experience there and what an amazing way for people to be introduced to Vincent's art!

"McDonald Creek" 12"X16" Oil painting on panel - framed . This piece represents the beautiful mountain creek cascading down from the mountains in Glacier National Park in Montana. I wanted to explore the intense color and texture of the landscape using a palette knife and lots of juicy paint.
SOLD!
"Sunset on Ice" Acrylic on Canvas - 12"X16" - framed - generously purchased by my friend Kim!

Your support is so appreciated!

I would love to share what's new and exciting in my art life, including my latest acrylic painting techniques and upcoming art exhibitions. I'm also thrilled to mention my experiences with plein air painting, particularly at the Spruce Grove Art Gallery, where I often showcase my work alongside fellow artists like Cathy Lea Scott.
I would love to hear from anyone interested in exploring my acrylic painting collection and what pieces are available for purchase. Additionally, if someone has a favorite photo they would like to have recreated in paint, perhaps in a plein air painting style, please feel free to contact me, and we can discuss the details. I also invite you to visit the Spruce Grove Art Gallery for upcoming art exhibitions featuring my work. Thank you!
